Soulmates 8x10" Wet Plate Collodion - Ambrotype

$4,500.00

I am excited to announce the release of a small collection of unique studio Ambrotypes. Created using the traditional 19th-century photographic method known as Wet Plate Collodion, this process involves pouring handmade film over a glass sheet and immersing it in a silver solution, which renders it light-sensitive. The prepared plate is then loaded into a camera and exposed to light through the lens in order to make the photograph. After the exposure has been made, it is hand developed, fixed, washed and dried . Because there’s actual silver used in the process, it has a three-dimensional, holographic quality. As the lighting in the room shifts, so does the appearance of the plate. I believe this is one of the most beautiful photographic techniques ever created. Since every step of this process is done by hand, resulting in just one unique plate, each artwork is one-of-a-kind and cannot be duplicated.
