Special Edition Book - Boathouse Theatre
I’m proud to announce the release of 20 total limited first edition books. The books are truly distinctive, showcasing a handcrafted, unique ambrotype as their cover, making them true collector's items. My goal was not just to produce a book paired with a piece of art, but to intricately weave the artwork into the very fabric of the book cover. When the book cover is opened, it transforms the ambrotype cover from a positive into a negative, allowing the viewer to fully see the beauty of the plate. I can proudly say that there is no other book of its kind.
The wet plate collodion photograph cover is encapsulated with museum glass, which blocks 99% of all UV light and has the highest degree of reflection coating for optimal viewing. These one-of-a-kind books also come with a special clamshell box with a window cut out of it, framing the plate and transforming the book itself into an actual work of art.
Additional features include Swiss binding, which allows the spine to be viewed when opened. The book is bound with black thread and has sprayed black edges. Inside the book, you will find a double-page gatefold pull-out displaying the lake in its entirety. The book features two different paper stocks: black and white 150 g Gramada paper. It is laid out by seasons, illustrated with alchemical symbols. These symbols can be decoded using the periodic table in the back of the book.
The ambrotypes for the special edition book cover were produced through an innovative process I developed , enabling the creation of studio plates derived from the larger plates crafted during the Lake project. Each ambrotype is meticulously handcrafted, employing the same techniques I utilize in the field. The inherent nature of the Wet Plate Collodion process guarantees that no two plates are identical. The careful hand pouring of the collodion, along with the subtle imperfections that arise, contribute to the uniqueness of each plate or work of art.
All books will be shipped via FedEx expedited service with insurance.
